“Smartness” is a transformational revolution of business practices, empowered by the increased use of Industry 4.0 smart technologies. Fintech and the digital economy have emerged and spread in ways that have not been foreseen before, especially in the post-COVID-019 era. Investigations on the impact of smart technologies on accounting show that the interactivity between humans and artificial intelligence agents plays an important role. However, research on the smart interaction among different stakeholders is often disregarded. There is a need to examine the effects “smartness” brings to customers, firms, the local community and other stakeholders. The aim of this research is to explore the impact, challenges and dilemmas related to digital accounting and smart technologies and how they jointly contribute to firm efficiency. Seeking to understand the impact of smartness on accounting and business practices, and individual decision-making processes, this research invites theoretical and empirical contributions (e.g., models, approaches, tools, case studies) to offer insights into the relevant phenomena.
